Yes, I am turning 50 on 9/14/11. Yikes! And I want to use this milestone to raise money for a very important cause and one very close to my heart.
In 2010, I was awakened by a book that helped me to understand the immense privileges I have as a college educated woman. When I learned that 70% of out-of-school youth in the world are girls and not even 7% of the world's populations has a college education, I was stunned. And then when I learned that more girls have been killed in the past 50 years, simply because they are girls, than all men in all wars of the 20th century - I knew I had to act.
And so I did by founding the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation. Each day, as I learn more about the plight of girls around the world and the positive affect these girls could have on the global economy and their own cultures, if they just had access to education, the more I am energized to help.
