HERE'S THE STORY:
An extreme event to highlight an extreme cause!
Every day, women and children have to walk for up to 4 hours to fetch water, taking valuable time away from receiving a school education or earning an income. Often, this water is unsafe to drink leading to sickness, disease, and even death. In fact, over 80% of diseases in the developing world are related to poor drinking water and sanitation. As a result, 1 child dies every 15 seconds due to water-related illnesses.
We can make a difference! Twice now, a group of young people have conducted 15-mile walk-a-thons in the desert! Adults and children have also participated by taking the H2O Challenge - choosing to make water their only beverage for 2 weeks and give the money they would've spent on other drinks to this cause. Many have also simply donated by going to www.africanwaterproject.org or directly on this site. Through these efforts, we've funded 25 water projects in Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, and Sudan, as well as given 124 water filters to families in Zambia and Rwanda.
But the water crisis isn't over. Help us continue to make a difference! Every amount counts. Just $1 can provide clean water for 1 African for 1 year! $55 can provide a family a lifetime supply of water (with a Water of Life filter). 100% of the funds we receive* will go directly to drilling and repairing clean water wells.
