THE STORY:

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million supporters, activists, and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide.

Our work on behalf of women’s rights is an essential component of our broader mission to fight injustice and protect universal human rights globally. Our work to achieve equality and advance the rights of women and girls is led by the AIUSA Women's Rights Program but the goal is shared by and integrated throughout the entire organization.

The Amnesty International USA Women’s Human Rights Program champions the rights of women and girls while holding governments, armed groups and other non-state actors accountable for ending discrimination and inequality. Our work is both global and local; the women's program focuses on ending violence against women in the U.S. and globally, ensuring U.S. action in support of Afghan women, defending women's sexual and reproductive rights, advancing women's political participation, and supporting women's human rights defenders in the U.S. and around the world.

Ladis Kristof Memorial Fellowship:

Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is proud to strengthen and expand the legacy of Ladis Kristof, Nicholas Kristof’s father, and honor his lifelong commitment to human rights by joining the Kristof family in supporting the Ladis Kristof Memorial Fellowship for Organizing and Activism, a fellowship to honor and inspire a new generation of human rights defenders.  Each year, one exceptional AIUSA student activist will receive the Kristof Fellowship for his or her outstanding efforts on behalf of human rights. The Fellow will join dynamic, in-progress efforts on all priority aspects of AIUSA’s work, building knowledge of domestic and international human rights issues and learning the channels and practices by which Amnesty promotes much-needed public and governmental scrutiny to end human rights abuses.
