Thank you for checking out my Marathon Fundraising page! As many of you know, the past year as been a year of big changes in my life. I have spent the past year discovering who I really am and what I can do to make the world a better place. Beit T'shuvah helped me at the very beginning of this year of change and continues to be a refuge for me. On Friday nights, I pray with a community that grows personally and collectively day by day. And during the week I run with an amazing team. Together, we are all learning to live life on life's terms and share in each other's successes and support each other during hard times.
I tried to start running last fall, but didn't put my heart into it. I tried running once a week with no success. I felt like a failure and gave up. Fast-forward to March. On a pouring rain Sunday morning, I met a good friend and early running supporter at the finish line of the LA Marathon. I saw people of all shapes and sizes finishing the Marathon and started to wonder... Fast forward to the summer. I saw the ad for the Beit T'shuvah marathon training team in the Shabbat bulletin. I tore it out and put it in my pocket. "I can do it" I thought to myself.
I believe in the Mission of Beit T'shuvah, which "is to restore lost souls and return them to themselves, their families and the community through a healing community of Jewish spirituality, 12 Step recovery and psychotherapy" (http://www.beittshuvah.org/Our-Philosophy). In gratitude for the life-saving work they did for me and to help Beit T'shuvah continue to do the same for others, I am running in the LA Marathon on March 18, 2012 to raise money for Beit T'shuvah. Every dollar that you give to my fundraising effort will go to support the life-saving work that Beit T'shuvah does every day.
Since the end of August, I have been running 2-3 times each week. My mileage has steadily increased and after running a half marathon on October 30, 26.2 doesn't seem so far off!
Beit T'shuvah has worked miracles in my life and saves lives every day. Please consider supporting them by pledging whatever you are able and comfortable giving!
Thank you.
WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ME:
I might not be the best Volunteer or Fundraiser but I'm decent at it and I can't think of a downside of throwing a vote my way.
