HERE'S THE STORY:
Brett is my friend Sheri's brother. He is 46, a single father of two kids - Callie, 15, and Tyler, 20, - and he is battling AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia). The best chance Brett has to beat this dreadful disease is to find a bone marrow donor. Unfortunately, there's only a 30% chance that his one eligible family member will be a match. That means he needs you.
Be the Match is holding a marrow drive at White Oak Elementary in Westlake Village, California on Wednesday, October 27th, from 12-5 p.m. to try and help find a match for Brett. If you live locally, we hope you'll consider coming and joining the registry. If not, you can sign up online at BeTheMatch.org.
Even if you don't join the registry, you can help Brett and the thousands of men, women and children who, like him, are heroically battling life-threatening disease. Every donation to Be The Match not only helps the organization run marrow drives like the one mentioned above, but it helps them to provide financial assistance to patients to cover the cost of a transplant if a match is found and to fund research to improve pre-transplant treatments, donor-patient matching and transplant timing. A $100 donation covers the cost of swabbing a potential donor and finding a match.
