HERE'S THE STORY:
I am going to be riding my bicycle from St. Augustine, FL to San Diego, CA. This trip will be roughly 3,200 miles and will take upwards of 6-8 weeks. I am doing this to raise money for a non-profit named Executives Without Borders.
At Executives Without Borders, their goal is to serve as the critical link between experienced individuals eager to serve the global community and humanitarian projects around the world. To get a deeper look at EWB, please visit their website at: www.execwb.org First and foremost, ExecWB target projects aligned with the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals ( www.un.org/millenniumgoals ) that include having extreme poverty to combating HIV, malaria, and other diseases. Second, we target projects that will provide sustainable benefits to a developing community for multiple generations. The final and most challenging criterion for a project is the transference of knowledge: the ability to impart skills learned from ExecWB to others in the community long after the initial project is completed.
The main cause that I am supporting through this trip is called "Ramase Lajan" or "From Trash to Cash." With Haiti still reeling from the devastating earthquakes in 2010, Haitians are still in need of serious help. The majority of their waterways and canals are full of plastic. All of this plastic is blocking the waterways and spreading the deadly disease, cholera. Ramase Lajan is not only clearing the plastic out of the waters in order to prevent the disease, but it is also creating thousands of new recycling jobs for the people of Haiti.
