Last year, I had the opportunity to meet one of the most humble people I ever met. Barry Hoeven is the CEO of Westport Properties, owner of US Storage Centers. 14 years ago Barry was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Thank goodness he is still very active and still with us. In fact, about four years ago he established a charity by the name of “Kure It” (www.kureit.org). Thus far he’s raised over $1 Million that is being used for under-funded cancer research. He and his team have stepped up their goal to give $1MM each to UCLA and USC by November of this year.“Rivals United For a Kure” has as its centerpiece a documentary film entitled “A City Divided” which is being produced by an Emmy Award filmmaking team about the history one of the most intense college football rivalries in the nation, USC vs. UCLA – a game that has both entertained and divided Los Angeles at the stadium, at the office, and at home for over 80 years.
I’m sure you know many people who have attended one of the schools. More important, like many others you probably have been touched by someone who has had cancer and survived it as well as others who weren’t so fortunate.
