Border Crossers is a grassroots education equity nonprofit whose unique programs are designed to encourage educators in explorations of race, class and cultural differences with elementary students. We believe that if educators are prepared to have meaningful conversations about diversity, students will be better equipped to interrupt patterns of racism and injustice in their own lives and thrive in a multicultural society.
Border Crossers provides resources for elementary schools to explore race, class and cultural differences with young students and build more equitable, inclusive learning environments.
In 2011, we launched our Talking About Race With K-5 initiative. This initiative seeks to address the issue of structural inequality in our city by equipping teachers and schools to confidently and effectively have conversations about race, class and difference with their students. We believe that if educators are prepared to have meaningful conversations about issues of diversity, students will be better equipped to interrupt patterns of racism and injustice in their own lives and thrive in a multicultural society.
