HERE'S THE STORY:
Hi guys! I'm so excited to be running the Boston Marathon again! This year, I've decided to join together with some other LGBT runners to help raise money for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through its free and confidential lifeline, in-school workshops, educational materials, online resources and advocacy.
I have a special fondness for The Trevor Project because this past fall, several members of Front Runners New York and I teamed together to produce a video for The Trevor Project's "It Gets Better" campaign. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yBx8hanu5I I was so proud to be a Front Runner, and so glad that we could come together to make a difference in the lives of LGBT youth.
While I'm not a charity runner and I don't have to raise money in order to run, we've all decided that the work of The Trevor Project is so important that we want to support it as a group. Last fall while out on a bike ride over the George Washington Bridge, I saw rainbow streamers left by individuals and a few brand new "You Are Not Alone" suicide prevention signs bolted to the railings. This was shortly after gay Rutgers student Tyler Clementi had committed suicide. I had an idea. I had already qualified for and entered the Boston marathon, but I decided I'd run it for the Trevor Project, a national, 24-hour, toll free confidential suicide hotline for gay and questioning youth. I would not be a charity runner, but simply running for a charity because I believe that what they do is really important, not only for the individuals they help but also for the larger LGBT community.
I also decided to ask other LGBT runners doing Boston to join me in the project. There's no big commitment or fundraising threshold—just kick in a few bucks and spread the word. While we all run Boston, we can raise money for the Trevor Project and hopefully set a positive example for LGBT kids out there. Who's with me?

Dave, I know this has been a long time since we've seen each other (say, Alain's 30th birthday in Manhattan five plus years ago).
