Thank you for visiting our Safaricom Marathon fundraising website!
Travis and Bret (Dad) are running in a unique & exciting marathon – in the heart of Kenya’s Lewa Wildlife Sanctuary. We are not only privileged to share the challenge of running 26.2 milesat high elevation near the Equator. We also have the opportunity to partner with you in raising money to support Tusk Trust. We will be running amongst the very habitat and endangered animals that Tusk seeks to protect, so it’s a very immediate and important cause for us to support.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Tusk was established in response to an urgent need to halt the decline in Africa’s natural heritage and find a way to combine the interests of people and wildlife alike. Its mission is to protect wildlife, support communities, & promote education.
Living in the U.S., it is easy to forget what sorts of challenges African nations face. Tusk has projects in 17 African nations, protecting species like the black rhino and giant sable antelope. Many projects Tusk funds become self-sustaining and managed by local residents. Since its formation in 1990, Tusk has raised over $25 million for a wide range of projects which not only work to protect wildlife, but also alleviate poverty, through sustainable development and education in rural communities. You can check Tusk out at www.tusk.org.
BUT, BEFORE YOU GO ….
We have committed to raising $5,000 in the few months leading up to race day on June 30. We will be covering all our own costs to train, travel and run the marathon, so 100% of the money you give will go directly to supporting this mission. With the help of family, friends, and co-workers, we know this financial goal is attainable, and we are excited about the potential for even more support for this worthy cause. We’d be very grateful if you’d support us with a donation. If you are wondering what amount is appropriate, you might consider the following:
- $76 sends one child to a 4-day camp to learn about conservation.
- $200 provides fuel for a health clinic ambulance.
- $350 supports two beach clean-up days by school children.
- $500 supports a community tree nursery.
- Saving a Black Rhino? …. priceless!
To donate, simply click on the red "DONATE" button on the right, follow the simple instructions, and look for your thank-you note soon! If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to "TUSK USA", write "Bret/Travis Vicary--Marathon" in the memo line, and send it off to: Tusk USA, 40 East 94th St., New York, NY 10128.
Thank you for making a difference for the communities and natural resources of Africa. Please forward this link to anyone you know who might be interested in our project. Check in often for fundraising and training updates. We’ll be thinking of you as we make our way along the dirt tracks of Kenya!
