THE STORY:

100% of proceeds go directly to the students

Mission Statement:

Running to the finish line to aide high achieving City College of NY undergrads complete their engineering degree.

“Open the doors to all. Let the children of the rich and the poor take their seats together and know of no distinction save that of industry, good conduct, and intellect.”
-Townsend Harris, Founder of The City College of New York, 1847

Objective of the Fundraiser:

Our goal is to provide the annual tuition for at least 3 deserving undergraduate biomedical engineering students who qualify based on their academic performance and financial background and whose residency has been established in New York City. Each student will receive $5,530 in tuition & fees-based assistance for the 2013 academic year.

History of The City College of New York:

City College’s commitment to access is two-fold. It strives to offer an affordable education and to recruit and support a diverse student population, reflective of both New York City and the global society in which we live. This commitment to access stems not only from a belief that every student prepared for a rigorous college education deserves access to and support for it, but also that excellence itself requires the broad inclusion of, in the words of Townsend Harris, “the children of the whole people.”

History of the Fundraiser:

Pamela Cabahug and Laura Causey began training for the ING NYC Marathon in 2010 with the goal of using it as a tool to fundraise for a CCNY undergraduate scholarship fund. Since 2010 they have run in over 20 races in New York City and Cleveland (including 3 half-marathons) and have volunteered with the New York Road Runners in preparation for the run of their life.

CCNY has become a symbol to the rest of the nation for what can be done when minorities have equal opportunities. With 60 percent of undergraduate NIH minority scholars going on to get their Ph.D. or M.D., CCNY is unique among the more than one hundred BME programs nationally. Pamela and Laura were inspired to create the scholarship when financial support for high-achieving undergraduate biomedical engineering majors from underrepresented groups was drastically cut. The goal of this fundraiser is to provide funds to help maintain the success stories of the high-motivated, well-deserving undergraduate students at CCNY.
