STUFF ABOUT ME:

Dear friends and family,

In November I’ll be running my third marathon . . . this time in New York City! To earn my bib, I've committed to raising $3,500 for the Nature Conservancy and I need your help to reach my goal.  While there are many worthy organizations, the work of the Nature Conservancy affects us all. Please consider donating and be part of the drive to conserve our planet’s reserves!

I have another reason to run for the Nature Conservancy - - to honor my uncle, Michael Coda. Mike was a loving father, a devoted conservationist, and an avid sports fan who passed away in 2004 after 4 years of battling brain cancer. It was not until my uncle’s funeral when his family, friends, and co-workers stood up and spoke of all of his achievements that I fully understood what an exceptional man he was.

During his 14 years with the Nature Conservancy Mike led some of the most notable fundraising endeavors. He was responsible for the Conservancy’s “Last Great Places” capital campaign and created the Conservancy’s Climate Change Program.  He helped negotiate several of the world’s largest carbon sequestration projects that led to the restoration of millions of acres of critical habitat for biodiversity.

As Vice President and Director of External Affairs, Mike was responsible for all of the Conservancy's partnerships with governmental entities, multilateral and bilateral institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The Conservancy has established an annual award in his name in acknowledgement of his contributions to the organization and to conservation.

I am proud and inspired by my uncle’s achievements.  I wish I still had the opportunity to challenge him one-on-one (and block his “famous jump shot”) or run beside (or slightly in front of) him in a road race.  This marathon is an opportunity for me to honor all that he was and all that he did for others.

Thank you for your consideration and for any contribution you are able to make to the Nature Conservancy.  I hope to see you in NYC on race weekend!

Love always,

Caitlin.
