BENEFITING: Somaly Mam Foundation
“Human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar industry, is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With over two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped”. SMF
Some years ago I came across The Road of Lost Innocence - the true story and a beautiful memoir of Somaly Mam, a former sex slave in Cambodia where she describes what as a sex slave she went through during her life in violence and abuse. Somaly managed to get out of there and start a new life due to her extraordinary personal strength. She has been struggling against modern slavery ever since.
This project is especially dear to me...
SMF focuses on rescueing and recovering victims; providing education, vocational training and reintegration of girls back into society. These things are not always easy, they require a lot of love and patience...
Vocational training provided in the center is directly linked to local market opportunities, and includes trades such as hairdressing and tailoring. Reintegration process includes micro-financing program that will provide each reintegrated survivor with a small grant, a bycicle for transportation, food, and health care supplies…
Every day more rescued girls join the center. Each of them deserve a better life and we have the power to make it happen.
Let’s do it right now.
