CHERUBS helps critically ill babies born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, a severe birth defect that occurs when the diaphragm fails to fully form, allowing abdominal organs into the chest cavity and preventing lung growth. 50% of these babies do not survive. Those who do endure long hospitalizations, complicated surgeries and breathing and feeding issues, if not more severe complications. Every 10 minutes a baby is born with CDH in the world. In memory of my first cousin "Gabriel Giansante" who passed away on NYE 2010 aged 42 years. He is now with his infant baby brother (also named "Gabriel") who died after birth over 43 years ago. Gabriel was named after his infant brother who passed away about 2 years prior to his own birth. We are all so very lucky to be here.
