Dwankhozi Hope's Fundraiser:
Chou - Run for Hope - Chicago Marathon
Dwankhozi Hope
HERE'S THE STORY:
Dear Friends & Family,
In less than a week, I will be running the 2011 Chicago Marathon. The reason for committing to this endeavor is twofold:
1. I want to challenge my weathered body and improve on my previous effort in 2006.
2. I want to build awareness of poverty in Africa and raise funds to continue support of a rural school in Zambia.
I have been greatly inspired by the efforts of my close friends, Matt and Beth MacLean, who helped found a non-profit organization called Dwankhozi Hope in 2006 with the goal of supporting a school in rural Zambia, a country in Southern Africa. The underlying philosophy of Dwankhozi Hope is to empower the community to continue school improvements for their children, thus creating a partnership that leads to opportunity through education.
Since the beginning of this partnership, they have witnessed tremendous progress in the community and the school. In the past five years, they have been able to support the construction of multiple school buildings and the provision of critical school supplies. They also led an effort to provide safe, clean water to the community and improve sanitation systems to the school. Most recently, Dwankhozi Hope deployed a medical team to educate the community on basic health and hygiene practices. Next steps include providing solar lighting to the community and sponsoring students to continue their education at higher educational institutions.
A group of us in Chicago have started down the path of raising funds specifically for Dwankhozi Hope's Solar Lighting initiative. We're off to a good start, but I would be most thankful if you would consider supporting my run through thoughts and prayers, or in the form of a donation to Dwankhozi Hope. Your support will not only fuel me on race day, but most certainly help forge a sustainable Dwankhozi community for years to come!
Sincerely,
Jeff
