Climb for Sudan brought to you by Project Education Sudan - presented by Larabar

Project Education Sudan was approached by two mountain climbers, Joe Rogers and Nick Spivey, who were inspired by the “Lost Boys” of Sudan’s 1,000-mile journey across three countries. Joe and Nick are long-time climbing buddies who wanted to climb together this summer like they did back in Alaska when they were roommates in college. They wanted to make their climb bigger than just two guys hanging out together, they wanted to climb in honor of something larger so they decided to dedicate their effort to the former “Lost Boys” of Sudan and the people of Sudan.
At Project Education Sudan, we said, “Wait a minute – aren’t we all climbers?” To climb is to reach for something greater than ourselves, to rise up, to ascend. It all started to become clear. The people of South Sudan are climbers. The “Lost Boys” are climbers. Our volunteers and people who help us build schools in Sudan are climbers. Our donors are climbers. The school children and families here in Colorado who reach out with their letters and pictures to children and families in Sudan are climbers too. With that realization the Climb for Sudan was born.

South Sudan will become the newest nation in the world on July 9, 2011. For 20 years they have struggled for independence and freedom through unimaginable challenges. We honor the people of South Sudan and for 70 days this summer, from July 2 to September 9, we will celebrate their independence and the importance of education as they build a nation. We will be looking for climbers to join us … people who want to raise awareness about the struggle in South Sudan, people who can give a little money to help with our school projects, and businesses, schools, churches who will sponsor the Climb For Sudan or events to celebrate the birth of a nation.
All of the money raised, aside from a few expenses, will be used to build classrooms and dormitories in South Sudan. It's key for them to build the dormitories and the classrooms, because it is too far for the children to walk home and to school every day. Ultimately, the money raised will see that all children of South Sudan receive an education so they may emerge as leaders of their new nation.
Oh, and did we already mention that through organizations collaborating with Project Education Sudan, latrines and water systems will also be built in the villages where the schools are?
