Stuff About Me:
I am a mother, a wife, an educator, scientist, community gardener, urban farmer, & practitioner of nourishing traditions that include urban agriculture as part of my back to the basics philosophy of feeding & nurturing my family. When I have time, I make my own cheese, sauerkraut, & kimchi.
I am also a community organizer of sorts, having mobilized support for my pro-urban agriculture petition & presented before various committees of Long Beach City Council to advocate for changing our municipal code.
My grassroots organization Long Beach Grows advocates for just & equitable food access, food security, & urban agriculture.
I believe that all people should have access to affordable, nutritious, locally grown real food. I also believe that all people should be allowed to feed their families as they see fit, including growing produce in front or back yards & raising small livestock at home for eggs & milk, even in the city.
Our goats Dinkey & Bumper are symbols of food justice & are tired of being outlaws.
As a mother, I hope to teach my child essential life skills so she’ll never go hungry & always know where her food comes from. My wish extends to the members of my urban community as well, especially the kids.
This is why I started Long Beach Grows.
