HERE'S THE STORY:

Quotes from Senator Stacey Campfield:

"Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community -- it was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall."

"What's the average lifespan of a homosexual? it's very short. Google it yourself."

That bullying thing is the biggest lark out there."  In reference to bullying and gay teen suicide.

Interview with Senator Stacey Campfield, OutQ Radio, January 26, 2012 (click for link).

You’d think something like that would be the work of the satirical “news” source, The Onion, but it’s not – it’s the hateful and uniformed voice of Tennessee state senator, Stacey Campfield (see links below). Senator Campfield has introduced harmful legislation and continues to make uninformed comments regarding homosexuality, HIV/AIDS, and the LGBT community; he has also sponsored legislation that would prohibit teachers in public schools from mentioning or discussing homosexuality in any way. This bill has already passed the state senate and is now up for a vote before the house. If it passes, not only would it be harmful to the state of Tennessee, but it could create a dangerous precedent that other states could follow.  Here is an article about a community in Minnosota that adopted a similar policy. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/one-towns-war-on-gay-teens-20120202?link=mostpopular3

It is clear from the response to his recent comments that people of Tennessee and across the country are outraged that a state representative has behaved this way. To combat his ignorance, we organized this page to raise money for the Tennessee Equality Project Foundation (TEP), which is a nonprofit organization in Tennessee that opposes the legislation, provides LGBT education and services, and generally represents an opposing voice to the ignorance touted by Senator Campfield.

Your donation will help not only to oppose the legislation and advance tolerance in Tennessee, but to demonstrate that we will not sit idly by while this narrow-minded senator advances bigotry and lies. Donations of $5, $10 or $20 will make a difference, so please give any amount you can.

All proceeds from the donations made through this site will go directly to TEP; the total amount of these donations will be displayed here as an indicator of the action taken by everyone against Senator Campfield.
