HERE'S THE STORY:
Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County (GOTRLA) is dedicated to educating and preparing girls in 3rd through 8th grades for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Using an interactive curriculum, certified volunteer coaches facilitate the twice-weekly afterschool sessions that combine the power of physical activity with important lessons to strengthen girls’ physical, social and emotional development.
The 12-week season culminates in a non-competitive 5k run/walk. Seeing them cross the finish line is empowerment in action – they prove to themselves that they can do anything!
Through a deep commitment to social justice, GOTRLA offers supportive role models, positive lessons and physical activity at a critical time when girls often face negative pressures of how to behave, look and think. It is much more than a running program; GOTRLA is nutrition for the body, mind and soul, and works to instill a sense of confidence in girls that will take them into adolescence and beyond, ready to take on the world.
Join our 2012 LA Marathon team to raise funds that will help us inspire LA girls to celebrate their bodies, honor their voices, recognize their gifts, and activate their power!
How it Works:
If you join us as an official team member, we ask that you commit to raising a minimum of $500. And we'll be there every step of the way with you, offering fundraising tools, energizing team support, and connections to the girls who will inspire you to go further than you ever imagined you could!
Once you have officially joined the team by making or raising a commitment donation of $50, we'll send you a cool team technical shirt for you to wear while you're training, and in the marathon. As you reach higher fundraising levels, we will offer other exciting incentives.
The first 25 fundraisers who raise $1000 will have access to our exclusive marathon morning VIP suite at Dodger Stadium. This means a warm, comfy place to hang out before the marathon, and most importantly, no waiting in line for the bathroom (and it's a nice bathroom too)!
NEW Charity 2-Person Marathon option! Run Half the Distance!
We have a few slots available for the new charity 2-person marathon option. The only way to register for this is by sending an email to: christine@gotrlosangeles.org. DO NOT register through the LA Marathon registration page--if you do, you will be registered for the full marathon, and registrations are not transferrable.
