GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY wrote -
Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County (GOTRLA) is dedicated to educating and preparing girls in 3rd through 8th grades for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Using an interactive curriculum, certified volunteer coaches facilitate the twice-weekly afterschool sessions that combine the power of physical activity with important lessons to strengthen girls’ physical, social and emotional development.
The 12-week season culminates in a non-competitive 5k run/walk. Seeing them cross the finish line is empowerment in action – they prove to themselves that they can do anything!
Through a deep commitment to social justice, GOTRLA offers supportive role models, positive lessons and physical activity at a critical time when girls often face negative pressures of how to behave, look and think. It is much more than a running program; GOTRLA is nutrition for the body, mind and soul, and works to instill a sense of confidence in girls that will take them into adolescence and beyond, ready to take on the world.
