Molly Fulton's Fundraiser:
Going Long 4 Liberia
Molly
EVENT DATE: Nov 12, 2011
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Dec 01, 2011
AMOUNT RAISED OFFLINE: $250.00
HERE'S THE STORY:
I tried to think of a good reason to train and sign up for a half marathon this year. The joy of running was not enough. The need to prove something, to accomplish something, to lose weight, get fitter, faster, and add another finishers medal to my collection wasn't enough. If I was gonna go long again, it was gonna have to be for Liberia.
I went to Liberia last year with a pile of pillowcase dresses (you can read more about that project here), and it was the beginning of a great love story. It has cost me to love Liberia so - money, time, most of my vacation days - and I've never felt so rich.
This year our team will be taking our second medical mission back to Liberia(funded largely by our Legs for Liberia 5K in Palmyra, Virginia), and we'll also be organizing and helping with the first ever Legs for Liberia race in Liberia. This race will be run for trade scholarships for Liberian youth.
So I will use my legs for Liberia. My goal is to raise enough money to provide one scholarship for every mile I run in the Richmond Half Marathon in November.(Any money you donate will go through my church so you get the tax benefit.) I figure if the discomfort I experience in 16 weeks of training and 13.1 miles of hauling my carcass on race day could redeem 13 war affected youth with a chance at trade school, a job and a part in rebuilding a traumatized nation, well...it will be well worth it.
I know you have plenty of demands on your resources, but I ask you to consider sponsoring me for a mile ($300), a tenth of a mile ($30) or even just for tying my shoes (that's worth 5 bucks, right?). Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
This here website, Crowdwise, offers some great incentives for donating. I will also be offering up some incentives of my own - kind of like public radio does - but instead of a mug or sweat shirt maybe I'll wash your car or bake you a cake. I've got skills.
