I am running in the Columbus Marathon this October. At first I was just running for my own health, and to check something off of my list of things I hope to do before I turn the big 30. Then, I realized I could use my marathon run as a platform to raise support for Health Partners of Western Ohio. This organization brings healthcare services to those who cannot afford them. Health Partners provides multiple services under 1 roof at 2 clinic sites in Western Ohio. Click on the Health Partner’s link below to learn more about the organization.
In addition to running this race to support a great organization, I also have a personal reason to support Health Partners. My grandfather served on the Health Partners Lima facility board for many years during his retirement from family practice medicine. He actually was one of the founding members for the facility. I remember taking tours of the Lima building with him just after it was built.  He always shared his experiences at Health Partners with his family, and I loved to hear about the great things he was doing for his community. His spirit of giving and service to his community is a huge inspiration for my decision to support this organization.
Unfortunately, my grandfather passed last October. Running this race is also a way for me to memorialize him during this time of year.  In October those who love him may remember him most and we may feel our sadness all over again. This is a healing run for me as I continue to grieve the loss of my grandfather.  I hope this fundraiser site will serve as a healing process for anyone who knew and loved him.
