THE STORY:
Please help plant the seeds of projects that will get water to people that need it. For every $1000 I can raise, I will get a chance to win a trip for two to join a volunteer expedition to Rwanda in 2012. That's right next door to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where my wife Mickey and I were Peace Corps volunteers 1974 - 1976, and I'd love to be a part of Water For People's work in that area!
Here are the basics: Water For People works to build a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and where no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease. This is their vision.
To one in seven people worldwide, getting water is backbreaking, life-threatening work. And drinking that water will likely make them sick, or die.
The man with the digging stick in the picture, by the way, was planting corn seeds in a field in Honduras, where we were Peace Corps volunteers 1980 - 1982. People need corn, too. It's another thing that's a lot harder for some people to get than others.
DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT, UP TO $2 MILLION!
It’s simple: Be part of the Donate to Drink $2 Million Challenge. Several donors have pledged $1 million and challenged Water For People to raise another $1 million. From September 1 until October 31, 2011, your impact will be doubled.
Imagine the possibilities. Your gift of $25 has the power of $50. A gift of $100 has the power of $200! The party is growing but Water For People and I need YOU for it to be complete!
Plus there are great gifts!
Or become a fundraiser yourself (click the black box “Fundraise for this Event” at www.crowdrise.com/donatetodrink) and raise at least $1000 for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to join a World Water Corps volunteer expedition to Rwanda in 2012! Every $1000 raised earns you another entry. (Hint hint: This is my goal too!)
Before your next drink of water (good, clean water, right from the tap, even!) help make sure some of the people who need safe water and sanitation get it, too.
Thank you for any donation you can make to help with this cause!
