THE STORY:
I believe that literacy is vital in our community. It must start when a child is born and by donating to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Initiative here in Columbia, MO. we can encourage reading. This helps the children learn at a young age (as the books that are sent to families starting as a newborn are age appropriate) develop recognition to shapes, colors, animals, letters and words.
I realize there are many cities/states that are offering this but I choose to donate to the Columbia, MO location. I have a nephew who is currently enrolled in this program and want to make sure other families in our community receive this service.
For $30 per child you can help a child in our community receive a book per month from birth to five years old. No matter the parents income or background all children receive the same books. If receiving books starting at birth, the children will receive 60 books which would be a great start to their own library and hopefully start a tradition of parents taking time to read to their children which wil be a memorable time for both the child and the parent(s).
