I've always donated money to various charities. Every year right before Christmas and for a few years I now let friends and family donate to my causes for my birthday instead of giving me gifts, because for me that's the best gift ever. I volunteered in South Africa in schools in the townships for several months and it was the best time of my life.
This site makes it even easier to be involved with a lot of good causes. It's great and knowing that even the smallest donation can make a change makes me smile every day.
I set up the project "Education for kids in South African townships" because those kids really need our help. They are amazing and appreciate the help a lot. I want them to reach their goals in life and to have a future outside of the townships. A future without crime and HIV/Aids. We all can make a change.
As a teacher projects helping children and teenagers are very close to my heart. Right now I have a project at my German school where my year 8 students write letters to the kids in the townships. It's a great project and both sides have a lot of fun.
I support the "1 degree to cancer" project to reach the goal of early detection since my own mother died of cancer 7 years ago. They didn't detect it early enough and she died only 9 months after the diagnosis.
