Howdy, All. If you are reading this, then I’m going to presume you want to know a little bit more about me. One stormy night a little over 30 years ago, I was born in the suburbs of Long Island, NY (Okay, I have no idea if it was really stormy out that night, but it sounded good for dramatic effect). Flash forward about 30 years, and here I am trying to write a bio that will help get YOU to donate money to an amazing cause.
It’s pretty simple, really--Beit T’Shuvah saves lives; Beit T’Shuvah has helped save my life. Seven months ago, I left Florida to come out here, because I had become powerless and my life had become unmanageable. I have not only stayed clean and sober since arriving here, I have started building a new life for myself on the Left Coast. Besides providing me with the obvious life-saving gift of recovery from my addictions, Beit T’Shuvah has also provided me with two equally critical life-saving gifts. First, I am now an employee here, at BTS Communications, photographing for the only marketing agency housed within a residential rehab. More importantly, however, Beit T’Shuvah helped me to discover that I have a soul.
In June, I was hospitilized due to complications with Crohn’s Disease (something I’ve had since Spring, 2001). I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get ugly. After nearly 3 weeks in the hospital, I left after having my entire large intestines removed, and an illeostomy bag put in it’s place. I could not have gone through such a life-altering ordeal without the amazing outpouring of love and suppourt that I received from the Beit T’Shuvah community. It reminded me how good it feels to be human again, and loved by a community.
So . . . you’re probably asking yourself, how does someone without a large intestine, and an ileostomy bag run 26.2 miles? Can he do it? Is he insane/did they remove part of his brain too? These are all valid questions. I do not have all the answers at this junction, but I know a few things: 1) many people have done more, with less; 2) Whether I run across or walk across, I will CROSS that finish line; and 3) with all that Beit T’Shuvah has done for me, this is the least I can do as a small token of my grattitude. So please, whether large or small, help out by donating to a truly amazing, life-altering, inspiring cause. You will not only be helping save my soul, you will be helping to save the souls of the countless other who are currently here or will be here in the future.
Best,
Justin
