THE STORY:

On Sunday, November 6, 2011, I am running the New York City marathon (my first and most likely last) and I am raising money to help young disadvantaged children find a career within the culinary arts.
Why Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP)?
In my home city of New York, I have been looking for a charity that I can get involved with, where the main focus is helping less advantaged young people to find work and careers in the food and (naturally) wine world.
C-CAP has a smart and inspiring new President, Susan Robbins, and they help teenagers in public schools across the country, who are at risk of leaving high school without job or college prospects. C-CAP offers direction, a real set of skills, and the potential for a fulfilling career in the growing restaurant and hospitality industry.
C-CAP was founded by Richard Grausman and it includes Tim Zagat, Marcus Samuelsson and Stanley Zabar on its Board. Whenever you eat out, particularly in NYC, you will see graduates from their programs in very familiar places, working for the leading restaurant groups such as: Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group; Daniel Boulud’s Dinex Restaurant Group; Jean George’s empire; the Four Seasons Hotels; or perhaps in Asiate or Artisanal. On the wine side, C-CAP alum, Carlton McCoy, is now the sommelier at the Little Nell in Aspen.
Please make a donation – knowing that friends have donated money with the expectation that I will complete the marathon, will be my biggest motivation in reaching the finish line – I hear the last 6 miles are just brutal.
Many thanks for your support,
Jamie
