This year I will be running the LA Marathon to raise funds for the Center for Assault and Treatment Services, based out of Northridge Hospital. They are the ONLY trauma and treatment center in the San Fernando Valley that provides much needed medical treatment, counseling, advocacy/education, and criminal reporting for victims of sexual abuse and assault.
Each day in the United States more than four children die as a result of child abuse in the home with more than 78% are younger than four years of age. -- US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Child Maltreatment 2003
1 out of every 4 girls and 1 out of every 6 boys are sexually abused by the age of 18 years old. -- National Children’s Alliance 2007
