THE STORY:
john kluge wrote -
My name is John, and I’m using my birthday this year to do something big. The thing is, I need your help to do it.
I believe education is a basic human right. Unfortunately, primary school enrollment in African countries is among the lowest in the world. 33 million primary school-aged children in Sub-Saharan Africa do not go to school at all. 18 million of these children are girls. We can change this, one birthday, one school, and one community at a time. Instead of gifts this year, join me in raising $25,000 for Pencils of Promise’s first school in Africa.
Why Pencils of Promise?
Since starting with just a $25 deposit, my friend Adam and his amazing team at Pencils have built more than 50 schools. They have educated over 4,000 children and positively impacted the lives of over 38,000 people. Pencils of Promise is more than just a rockstar non-profit—It’s a movement of dedicated individuals, friends, and families who are committed to supporting a world with greater educational opportunity for all. There are more than 75 million children without access to education—Pencils intends to change this, and so do I.
I have spent the past several years hopping around Africa, from Ethiopia to Senegal, Egypt to Central Africa and beyond meeting with some amazing people who are building an incredibly hopeful future for Africa’s children. Over the course of the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some of their stories and my own-including some surprises as gifts to you for supporting this wonderful cause.

Thanks so much for your support!
