I am running my third Boston Marathon this year with Team Eye and Ear. I work at Mass Eye and Ear as an Occupational Therapist in the Vision Rehabilitation Center. The work we do is so important and your support is appreciated by all of the wonderful people that we serve.
The Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary Vision Rehabilitation Center is a multidisciplinary clinic providing rehabilitation evaluation and interventions for patients who have been diagnosed to have an eye disease that cannot be reversed. Patients are referred to our service after ocular exam and diagnosis. Our initial consultation, by either a staff opthalmologist or optometrist, focuses on assessing patients' visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and central/peripheral visual field. We are able to map your remaining central vision with the state of the art macular perimetry testing. Five specific areas are assessed and addressed in our Comprehensive Vision Rehabilitation model:
- Reading
- Activities of daily living
-Patient Safety
-Continued participation in one's community
- Patient's well being
Occupational Therapy services are an important part of our care and patients are seen both in our Clinic and Patient's homes. A wide range of technologies for accessibility are available in our clinic for demonstration and training. We work collaboratively with MEEI Social Work Services, MEEI Interpretative services, and a range of community agencies in the Boston area.
