STUFF ABOUT ME:

My name is Lindsay and I am a Beit T'Shuvah alumni. I came to Beit T'Shuvah 18 months ago to deal with a serious drug issue I was struggling with. My life was a mess. I know it sounds cliche, but, Beit T'Shuvah helped to save my life.

I have never run, and that's why I'm doing the marathon. I want to challenge myself and save a soul. I work out (yes, I'm an athletic person) but the thought of running 26.2 makes me want to shoot myself in my head.

I must tell ya'll that I'm an insulin dependent diabetic, which adds another hurdle in running the marathon. It makes my hill a little bit steeper....AND let me tell you the course is already quite hilly.

Please help me save a soul! I hate running...but I'm not doing it for me, I'm doing it for the next drug addict that needs help.

THANK YOU!

Dear Lindsay: You do not know me but I was moved to donate based on your story and the amount of time you have been there. My son, Mitch, was an addict and I brought him to BTS on June 10, 2010, after one year of incarceration in Orange County. We met the wonderful staff there and Mitch was assessed for admittance into BTS. We returned home with much hope for the future. Well, the same evening after visiting there, a "friend" dropped off some black tar heroin while we were at a school awards ceremony that evening. When we returned that evening, he seemed fine. However, before I went to bed, I questioned Mitch on why his demeanor had changed and caught him nodding off twice! Like a stupid fool, I became angry at him because he would not just be honest and tell me what he had taken. I never (foolishly and stupidly) realized that he could overdose from taking drugs again for the first time in such a long time. We were unaware Mitch had heroin in his possession and since Mitch was "clean" at the time, it proved to be a fatal move. I found him looking peaceful in his bed the following morning at 6:00 am. We attempted CPR while calling 911 at the same time. It was too late.

I would like to think that you and Mitch would have met and became friends, possibly. He was a kind, sensitive soul and if you had the chance to have met him, I think you would have agreed. On Sunday, December 11th, it will eighteen months since we lost our precious first-born son. He left behind three younger brothers, one who is sophomore not far from BTS, at USC. The plan was that while Mitch was in rehab/recovery, his brother would be at USC and we would be driving up to pick up Mitch and then over to USC to pick up his brother, for a day out together, or vice-versa. Well, I guess sometimes you just can not count on your plans.

BTS has a special place in our hearts because it represents all that might have been for Mitch, his future and his life. We hope to be able to visit there one day but it is way too gut-wrenching to even think about entering there now. Perhaps one day.

I read your story and was impressed with your journey through recovery and I hope nothing but success and a great future ahead of you!
