HERE'S THE STORY:
Born in Taiwan on October 3rd, 1955, my father, Shen-Shin Lu attended Central Military Academy and served as an officer in the Taiwanese Army. After fulfiling his commitment, he, along with my mom took my siblings and me and emigrated first to Japan in 1982, and then to Boston in 1989, where we've lived since. My dad earned law degrees in Japan, and again from Harvard Law School, eventually starting his own law practice. He was one of the only English-Japanese-Chinese trilingual attornies in the Greater Boston area and represented clients with diverse backgrounds, from established corporations to migrant laborers who didn't have the means for legal representation.
In April 2010, he was diagnosed with advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the head and neck. He began treatment immediately with a team of oncologists from MassGeneral and Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. After a year-long treatment consisting of radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery, sadly, my father passed away in May. The team of doctors, nurses, and staff were tremendous throughout the treatment, not only to my dad but to my entire family and I don't know where we would be without their encouragement, support, and empathy.
It is in my father's memory that I am running the 2012 Boston Marathon, and MassGeneral for whom I am raising funds to help fight cancer.
