BENEFITING: Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog

THE STORY:

I decided that this is the year I accomplish a longstanding goal, a hike up New England's most impressive mountain, Mt. Washington. I was hoping to make my hike even more memorable by using it as an opportunity to collect pledges/donations for Massachusetts Vest-a-dog, a group that provides bullet/trauma proof vests for local police K-9s.

Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog, Inc. is an independent, all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and recently expanded it's mission, to Support Massachusetts Police Dogs, by helping provide bulletproof K9 vests (continuing to be our primary goal), essential equipment, training & dogs; in response to K9 handlers who have often noted the fragility of their K9 budgets, & lack of funding for other K9 equipment (first aid kits, hot & pop units, bite sleeves/suits, cruiser kennels, etc.), as well as specialized training, & the ultimate 'big ticket item' - the purchase of a dog. A bulletproof K9 vest ranges from $1006 to $2400 each, and will also protect K-9s against blunt force trauma from being kicked, punched, or struck with an object, like a bat. *** We are building on almost 12 years of success; generous support from donors like you and tireless efforts of our volunteers has provided over 300 bulletproof vests across Massachusetts. Recently we awarded our first grants totaling just over $17,000 to fund K9 safety equipment, a K9 training conference, and funds to help implement a K9 program in Holliston!
