THE STORY:
I currently live in Washington Heights New York City. I've had the amazing opportunity to climb Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, ascended the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, and participated in the 42-mile New York City 5 Borough Bike Tour and Climate Ride. This fall I am preparing for my first competitive race, the 2011 New York City Marathon, as a first time runner on behalf of The Nature Conservancy.
I grew up in the busy New York City metropolis with a limited perspective of nature and minimal interest in fitness. In high school I was given the opportunity to study with scientists on a nature preserve in Delaware, as part of The Nature Conservancy's LEAF internship program, that consequently inspired me to hike and climb. This experience led me to pursue outdoor fitness, lose 60 lbs, and focus on a career in conservation and natural resource management.
As a college junior SUNY Albany, I am majoring in Geography and Urban Studies and work with my local community to engage and activate them on sustainability and conservation issues with the National Hispanic Environmental Council. I exercise daily with aspirations to become the first NYC Latino under 25 years old to complete the 7 Summits Challenge, an expedition to scale the highest mountain on each continent.
Please support my run in the NYC Marathon and donate to Team Nature Conservancy. Here's How:
When you donate to Team Nature Conservancy, nature and people benefit. Just hit the big, orange DONATE button and you are helping to support the Conservancy's vision to leave a sustainable world for future generations.
