THE STORY:
Over the past 4 years, I have worked with three different high school students through the iMentor program. This year, I have begun a three-year commitment with Courtney, a junior at a high school in Brooklyn. I will mentor her through the next two years of high school, and her first year of college. I have been working with Courtney for the past five months, and she has already made some great accomplishments – most importantly she recently passed her English Regents exam! We are also working on steps to accomplish some of her long term goals, which include getting a summer job, going to college and becoming a police officer.
At our last meeting, I asked Courtney to tell me in her own words how iMentor has been helpful. She mentioned that it has been helpful to get my point of view on what college was like, and how I have gotten to where I am today. She also said iMentor has “made me more serious about schools & getting my work done.” In only a few short months, I have helped motivate Courtney to be more successful in school, including passing an important test required for high school graduation!
I hope you will consider volunteering with this great organization and/or donating to help me reach my goal of enrolling 1 new mentee in the program for a year!
Every dollar makes a difference. A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events. $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preperation events.
