ONE COMMON UNITY

BASED: Washington, DC, United States
CHARITY WEBSITE: www.OneCommonUnity.org
Since our inception in 2000, One Common Unity projects and programs:
(1) provided non-violence workshops and seminars in four District of Columbia high schools, three junior high schools, three elementary schools, and eight recreation centers;
(2) facilitated music literacy, non-violence and leadership development in the summer months to over 200 youth ages 14 - 18 living in Washington, D.C. through our “RYS Above the Violence" summer youth initiative;
(3) sustained self-awareness and empowerment programs for over 100 young women from Washington Metro Area high schools through our Young Women’s Drumming Empowerment Project;
(4) enriched the D.C. community through several cultural events and celebrations;
(5) administered the A Nu View youth film making program for two straight summers which engaged local high school students in all aspects of film production while simultaneously teaching them the principles of non-violence and conflict resolution.
In 2009 alone, OCU offered conflict transformation, music therapy & leadership programs for over 700 youth and families, a pilot D.C. high school television series, entertainment for hundreds through several community cultural events and celebrations, screenings of our youth-developed documentary "A Weigh with Words," trainings for 1,200 teachers and staff in the principles of arts-based peace education, and two holistic healing-art retreats. We also hosted ongoing peace education workshops at Sasha Bruce, The Beacon House, the Harry Thomas Recreation Center, Wilson Senior High School, and Girls Inc.
We need your help to sustain our valuable work! We are looking for individuals to pledge monthly donations to One Common Unity so that we can continue to provide much-needed arts-based peace education services to the DC area.

My daughter is 14 and going to hig school next year. She has had a hard time adjusting in school due to bullying. Is she old enough to come to this work shop for teens. She will be a 9th grader next year. I am hoping she can come because I think it will helpher adjust to high school with a better sense of how she can get along with children who are different than her. Thank you for the work that you do.
