The ONE Spirit Mission is to assist the Lakota people in preserving and revitalizing the Lakota culture, language, and self-sufficiency while meeting the basic needs of Lakota families, children, and elders. We strive to cultivate an intercultural relationship that recognizes that we are all related and that American Indians are an equal and valued part of our society.
The Lakota people and One Spirit are currently focusing on the youth with the determination to change the negative statistics associated with the younger generation - 75% high school drop out, involvement with drugs, gangs, and alcohol, high suicide rate. One part of the effort is to provide summer camps that will cultivate "The New Warrior" that emcompasses the Lakota values of Respect, Honesty, Fortitude, Generosity, Courage, Responsibility, and Wisdom.
$18,000 will provide a swimming pool - the first on the entire reservation - teepees for camping, food, long horseback rides, mentoring and tutoring.
