THE STORY:
I received many high-fives throughout my basketball career... help me give my hometown and the students at JRLA support with a high-five donation! In return, I will give my supporters a high-five by selecting lucky donors to win prizes that will be announced throughout the campaign. *See below
Detroit schools are in crisis:
31.9% of Detroit’s public high school students graduate in four years.
12.1% of the adult population in Detroit has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher.
47% of the adult population in Detroit is functionally illiterate.
It’s time for a solution. Help us make the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) part of that solution! JRLA is an open-enrollment tuition-freepublic charter school located on the Northwest side of Detroit. JRLA provides a leadership-focused experience within a high-performing high school that engages and inspires Detroit youth to achieve at the rigorous level necessary to ultimately graduate with a college degree. Students are provided with real-world, project-based experiences within the context of leadership, sports, and entertainment.
JRLA offers Detroit area high school students unique opportunities that they would not receive from any ordinary public school:
* Low student to teacher ratio (20:1; 10:1 in math & English)
* Extended school day (8am-4:30pm)
* Extended school year (211 days including 6 “Super Saturday” modules)
* Innovative curriculum and cutting-edge technology
* Preparation to excel on the ACT
* Student leadership training and development (daily Leadership class)
* Dual enrollment at the University of Detroit Mercy as upperclassmen
Operation Graduation is the 501(c)(3) non-profit implementing a comprehensive fundraising and capital campaign to support the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy. Detroit charter schools receive less state-aid than Detroit Public Schools; including roughly 85% of what nearby suburban schools receive. Unlike traditional public schools, charter schools do not receive funding from their school districts for facilities and often times, this causes financial challenges. JRLA will need to expand its existing facility by the 2013-14 school year to accommodate the needs of its growing student body.
To financially support both the transformational educational opportunities for students at JRLA and their families, and to provide the necessary facilities to house these unique programs, Operation Graduation is currently seeking grassroots support from community members like you! Your support will allow the Academy to continue to grow and reach more students and their families. If we get 10,000 supporters to each donate $10, we’ll reach our goal of $100,000 to build a new classroom!
Please click the DONATE button above and together, we WILL make a difference!
It takes a village to raise a child... JOIN OUR TEAM and help us fundraise! Start a PROJECT TEAM below and share your team member page with all of your friends and ask for their support. If we reach our goal of $100K, the individual who donates or the team who raises the most money will have the classroom named after them!
