Grandma George was the last living grandparent I had. With her personality, we all thought she was invincible and wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. She taught me to be strong and independent and the meaning of family. After she moved to Florida, a goal she has had for a long time, we started noticing little things that were different. When she had a friend take her to the hospital, we knew something was very wrong, she hasn't been to the doctors since my aunt was born.
It was scary hearing cancer, even scarier hearing how widespread it was. we have found that colon cancer runs in our family, and if my gramma had gone for checkups, it could have been caught and treated and she'd still be here. I'm glad she's not suffering, but she'll miss meeting the man I want to marry, having kids and all these other milestones I want to hit, just because she never went to the doctor's.
