A spring vote for you!

With all the headlines screaming disaster and heartache, it's easy to get disheartened. Reader to Reader has supported schools damaged by tornadoes, public libraries devastated by flooding, and communities deeply affected by local tragedy. But each day we see examples of how much good is out there. That goodness is not always in the headlines. Sometimes, it's tucked quietly away, but it's there, and is the very reason we do this work--to bring books and other resources to the next generation that so richly deserves them.

Reader to Reader needs your help to get books in the hands of children across the country. Will you donate or join our team? Your support makes a difference!

Thanks,
Kat

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know that I was able to complete my own version of the marathon. A grassroots group called "Run Anyway NYC Marathon 2012" gathered on Sunday morning. We brought donations to help those in need in NY & NJ, then we ran.

This group that came together completely believed that canceling NYC marathon was the right move. But many of us had dedicated the run for a cause, in my case Superstorm Sandy relief through the American Red Cross, and needed to finish what we started. We needed to fullfil our obligation to the cause and to our generous donors.

So we all ran in Central Park. There were over 2000 people running with this group, but they estimated in the end that there were over 20,000 people in the park in total. We did it like they did back in 1970 - looping around the park 4+ times to complete 26.2 miles.

It was hard running up Harlem Hill FOUR TIMES, but I am proud to say that I did it. The energy in Central Park was amazing. So many runners, so many causes, so many countries represented - I can honestly say that there will never be a "marathon" experience quite like this one.

My family - Chad and the girls, my brother and his family, who have been displaced by the storm and my parents who were without power until the day before, met me at the "finish," 89th & Central Park West, right next to the Guggenhiem. As Barbara wrote to me earlier today, "It was probably the best marathon you'll never run" and she is completely right.

Thank you again for your support I know that donations are still needed everywhere and every bit helps.

With much love and thanks,

Hi Everyone,

As you might have heard by now, the marathon has been cancelled. Although I won't be running, I am so glad that we were able to make a huge contribution to the hurricane relief effort that the American Red Cross is undertaking. We raised over $1000 in 24 hours. Your thoughtfulness is amazing.

Thank you so much for your donation. I hope that I can run a marathon somewhere soon and dedicate it to all of you and your amazing support.

Dear Becca,

I can't thank you enough for supporting the American Red Cross and my run in the NY Marathon. There is only a short time (2 days!) before the big day, but I know we can make a difference.

I really appreciate your donation! I hope we get to run together in Milton in the Spring!! Ami

Great job Rebecca! Looks like you're bringing some great attention and support for your cause/marathon :) I recently moved down to South Africa to join the Imagine Scholar team, but let me tell you- going for a run in a rural village gets you some strange looks and giggles :)

Anyways, keep up all the good work! If you're in the neighborhood for some additional projects to support, please feel free to poke around my page and check out our small water fundraiser! We're trying to provide 6 months of clean drinking water for our students (of Imagine Scholar)!

Happy Crowdrising and best wishes,
Megan
