I picked up the phone at 4:05pm on December 14th, 2010 and wished I was dreaming when I heard “Mr. DeSilva, that was a melanoma”. Only months later, I learned a close college friend of mine had died after battling a malignant brain tumor for 2 years. He was 40 years old and left behind a devastated wife and 3 young children. Currently, a work colleague and friend is battling metastatic melanoma and several other family members and friends in recent years are in remission having recently battled breast cancer. And it doesn’t stop there - if you haven’t been impacted by cancer in some way yet, you will. I promise you.
Therefore I have decided to join the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) Marathon Team and run the Boston Marathon in April 2012 to help raise money for pediatric cancer research and do what I can to help us all kick it’s ass. JAF also financially supports families while they are undergoing treatment (helps pay mortgage, bills, etc) so they can focus on getting well. This is assuming my love/hate relationship with running and injuries, and my love/love relationship with beer are kept in check for the next several months. My goal is $5000, and I am asking you to help…now. I know it’s the holiday season and the economy is in Cousin Eddy’s shitter, but my first check in date is January 9th, and I need to have $1000 raised by then. Plus, Deana is not running this year, instead she'll be supporting my fundraising efforts.
