Epilogue

Sunday, November 18, was beautiful autumn day in Philadelphia with a temperature range of 38 to 52 degrees. Perfect for my first marathon.
The city of "Brotherly Love" opened its arms and roads to the runners
from the canceled New York City Marathon. Half of the entry fee charged to the NYC marathon runners was donated to help with relief efforts associated with Hurricane Sandy.
The race began at 7:00am. The first 22 miles were going quite well with a little fatigue in my quads just setting in. Mile 23 and 24 were my most challenging and I had to walk/run for a little while. I picked up my pace a bit for mile 25 and and was able to run across the 26.2mile finish line with a time of 3 hrs. 52 min. and 23 sec.
I learned a lot about running during my months of training and a lot from my first marathon experience. I also got a lot from all of you.
Knowing that all of you value the importance of the public library system whether it be Montclair's or that of another community means so much. I appreciate all of your support, thoughtfulness, and generosity; and once again say thank you. Next year, in New York City!

A very special thanks to all of you for your support in my effort for the Montclair Public Library. I had hoped to raise not only funds for the library, but also to raise the level of awareness of the library and the wonderful resource that it is for our community. I know that many of you spent hours there during the past two weeks while many of us were without power.
Through your contributions, the Montclair Public Library Fondation will receive nearly $9,000. ( and I didn't even run). It is through generosity like yours that enables the Montclair Public Library to continue to be the valuable asset in our community that it is. For the record, I will be running in the Philadelphia marathon this Sunday, November 18.
