EVENT: Honda LA Marathon 2012

EVENT DATE: Mar 18, 2012

THE STORY:

TEAM RUBICON wrote -

Run with South Sudan, run with military veterans, run with your neighbors wherever you live.  On March 18th, the day of the LA Marathon, we RUN AS ONE.  Click "Join the Team" on the right to RUN AS ONE with Team Rubicon.

Team Rubicon (TR) is a non-profit organization that repurposes the skills of young, military veterans for humanitarian disasters.  Giving veterans a way to utilize the unique set of skills they acquired during war time, not only helps others, but helps these vets settle in when they return home from war and a network of other military vets to connect with.

TR will conduct its second proactive medical mission to South Sudan in December. On December 31st, Team Rubicon will put on the RUN AS ONE – SUDAN half-marathon, one of the first official sporting events in the new country of South Sudan.  Warring South Sudanese tribes will come together in an event that promotes health, camaraderie, and celebrates their new, independent nation.

The male and female winners of the RUN AS ONE - SUDAN half-marathon will come to Los Angeles to run in the Olympic-qualifying LA Marathon March 18, 2012.  These South Sudanese runners will have a very good chance to be the first to compete and represent their new country in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

SUPPORT SOUTH SUDAN, VETERANS ON MARCH 18

Team Rubicon invites all veterans, supporters of veterans, friends and neighbors to create a local team, get supporters for your team, and RUN AS ONE wherever you live on March 18th.  You’ll be running with thousands of runners in the LA Marathon, you’ll be running with the South Sudanese runners, and running to support veterans across the country…all in your local hometown.

IF YOU RAISE….

ONE Hundred Dollars
Win a "RUN AS ONE" official tshirt! All the cool kids have one.

ONE Thousand Dollars
Win a Team Rubicon Swag Pack!
Includes that really great looking "RUN AS ONE" tshirt, some very impressive TR merch, and a decent amount of RUN AS ONE swag. Stuff you'll like, stuff you'll LOVE. Trust us on this one.

And...if you're in Los Angeles, you'll get invited to a pre-race BBQ with the South Sudanese marathoners and TR volunteers.

ONE Hundred Thousand Dollars
Win an All Expenses Paid Trip to Jonglei, South Sudan. We're serious if you're serious. You raise 100k, we will fly you out to South Sudan with the rest of the TR team to run in the 2012 RUN AS ONE Marathon. If you think this is wild, it's because it is.

SOUNDS GREAT! BUT WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

1. We'll continue our Peace through Medicine initiative and RUN AS ONE marathon in South Sudan.

2. We'll use the rest to support the development of regonalized Team Rubicon veteran units to respond to whatever nature throws our way. While transitioning home, veterans get to use their skills in continued service to others, and we'll all get help when disaster strikes.
