HERE'S THE STORY:

Chuck Cova wrote -

It was April of 2009 and I was cheering people in at the finish line of a 3 mile race called "The Journey".  I look to my right and there is a woman sitting on a curb, crying, and caressing her Journey Finishers pendant.  I ask if she is alright and she explains to me the significance of that finish line.  "Not long ago I struggled to walk 10 feet from my couch to my scooter...since then I've lost over 150 lbs and this is my first finish line.  The Journey is a very meaningful name to this event..."

After that Lorrie and I became friends.

After that Lorrie's RA decided that it had plans other than additional finish lines.

Since that time I've gained a renewed sense of appreciation for what it means to be able to "just go for a run or a bike ride", or even a walk.

My goal is to run 100 miles in one day.  A proverbial mountain that I'm not sure I'm fit to climb.  But I will strive to make the finish line to honor my friend whose daily struggles are often akin to such a mountain as the one of my own making.

RA is insidious, and because it is usually invisible it is often misunderstood or disregarded. I pray for the day that Lorrie earns another finishers medal. I dream of the day that the ravages of RA are controllable at worst, or defeated, at best.

What do you say?  Will you partner with us?  I'll do the running, will you donate to the cause?
