Off a small coast in Taiji, Japan, over 20,000 dolphins are brutally slaughtered every year in what are called "Dolphin Drives" - a seasonal dolphin hunting method that takes place in many parts of the world but are highlighted particularly in Japan.
The Taiji bay is highly guarded as many of you may have witnessed in the academy award winning documentary, The Cove, in which an elite team of activists, filmmakers, and freedivers risk their safety as they embark on a mission to shed light on the horrors of the cove. Annually, fisherman pursue dolphins and pods in open seas, driving them to bays and shallow water by banging metal poles together beneath the water to disrupt their hypersensitive sonar.
Exhausted, the dolphins remain enclosed in the bay; they are sealed off to the ocean by nets and await the arrival of the fisherman. Using knives and spears, the fishermen butcher the dolphins in a violent and sick, almost "gamemenship" act. Attractive dolphins that fit "Flipper criteria" are spared but only to face an almost equally sad fate. They are sold all over the world to dolphinariums and waterparks for entertainment-many of which die within 2 years of captivity due to stress and poor environmental conditions.
Meat from the massacred dolphins are sold to the general public for food - another deleterious act as dolphin meat contains an obscene level of mercury - a deathly poisonous chemical now being consumed by the Japanese public.
Savejapandolphins.org was founded by Ric O'barry, a leading marine mammal activist who has worked for over 38 years toward the freeing of dolphins in captivity. He has also sought to spread more awareness toward the issue. O'barry was able to create the savejapandolphins campaign with the help of Earth Island Institute Inc - a leading non-profit organization that encourages activism toward environmental issues and the promotion of public education. Every cent raised will be donated to Earth Island Institute and will bring us a step closer to stopping the inhumane massacre that goes on every year. Dolphins are highly intelligent and self-aware animals that are a lot more complex and sophisticated than their ever-present smile suggests. They deserve our awe and respect and the unjust and horrid dolphin drives that take place every year needs to stop.

It will take anywhere from 3 seconds to 1 minute for your pic to upload, depending on how big it is.
You're going to see this message every time you post a new pic. So, we're making the text really long so that it'll take you at least five picture uploads to read it all. Here's what we're thinking...While you're first picture is uploading think about someone you want to kiss. When you upload your second pic think about one friend who you can beat in a race. On your third photo upload think about your favorite food that begins with the letter H. While your fourth picture is uploading think about how great it would be if you were a world class breakdancer. While your fifth picture is uploading try to think of the best candy to eat if you were a mime spending a month in New Zealand. If you upload a sixth and seventh picture please just read all of this again.
We're setting up your Fundraiser page right now. It will take anywhere from 3 seconds to 27 seconds.
CrowdRise is designed to help Volunteers and Fundraisers answer the call to service, raise money for Charity, and have the most fun in the world while doing it. To make sure we don't go out of business trying to help everyone raise lots of money for Charity, CrowdRise deducts 5% on donations made through our site and a $1 transaction fee for donations under $25 or a $2.50 transaction fee for donations $25 and over.

There's no better way to make a Fundraiser viral than by creating or joining a Fundraising Team.
A Fundraising Team is a group of Fundraisers or Volunteers, all working together for a common cause. It's like communism but more fun. Start or Join a Fundraising Team if you want to go beyond donating money and get more involved by spreading the word about the Fundraiser to your friends, family, co-workers, etc. Everyone on the Team gets their own Fundraising Page with the click of a button so we make it quick and easy to join the Team and even easier to tell your friends about it. Donating cash to a Fundraiser is amazing and much appreciated but imagine the impact you can have if you go a step further and ask everyone you know to donate too. And then a couple of them join the Team and spread the word to all their friends. We've seen this work successfully over and over and it can work for this Fundraiser too.
If you have any question about how to Join or set up a Team on CrowdRise, please Contact Us.
Share your Project Page with everyone you know and ask them to donate to your amazing cause. 97% of people you ask will say yes. And if they don't give at least a little cash money, there's no reason to buy them a holiday or birthday gift ever again.
