Hallo Friends and Family,

 

On November 6th I am going to run in the ING New York City Marathon and am writing to ask for your support of me and the extremely impactful and deserving charity that I am running for, GrassrootSoccer. 

I am working towards 26.2 miles for 2 reasons:

#1: I believe in Grassroot Soccer.  Grassroot Soccer has educated over 400,000 youth in HIV and AIDS prevention.  In the face of seemingly insurmountable problem (over 25 million people have died from AIDS since 1981), GRS is working with the young leaders who will turn the tide on HIV. They are giving kids the most important weapon in this fight: knowledge.

GRS enrols professional soccer players - many of the continent's most admired figures - in groundbreaking programs to educate youths in HIV/AIDS prevention and life skills, so they can live HIV -free.   GRS aims to reach 1 million youth educate by World Cup 2014.

#2: I’ve always wanted to run a marathon.  Grassroot Soccer has provided me with the opportunity to do that, in exchange for raising funds to support their work.  The ING NYC Marathon is their biggest fundraising event of the year, bringing in $200,000 to educate 8,000 youth.  I am proud and honoured to be a part of their efforts and I hope you’ll join me.
