THE STORY:
Sebastien Saylor wrote -
On January 1st 2011 my sister, Olivia, died tragically young. Only months later, the LeStrange Family lost their 4th grade daughter, Carly, to a year-long battle with cancer. To honor their memories, my friend Greg and I are participating in Tough Mudder - possibly the toughest event on the planet (toughmudder.com for more details on that!). The video to the left gives an idea of how my training is going.
We are pushing friends, family, friends of Olivia and Carly, and friends of friends to raise funds for Horse Ability, a therapeutic horseback riding facility. Horse Ability is the only facility on Long Island that is accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH). I have spent time at Horse Ability and have seen their work in action. It is staffed largely by caring volunteers who provide a range of therapies and services for children and adults with physical and/or mental handicaps, as well as programs for active duty military personnel and veterans. They provide a summer camp for severely disabled children who often rely on grants and donations from kind and generous donors in order to attend. Carly and Olivia never met, but they shared a passion for horses. I know they would appreciate your support of Horse Ability.
It costs $700 per child for a one-week camp session and we are hoping to send as many children as possible to camp. Proceeds from our efforts will also help fund a field trip to Horse Ability for Bayport-Blue Point students with significant developmental disabilities. Thank you for your support!
My heart is broken. I can only imagine the anguish with which you approach the holidays. She was beautiful and if she took after her mother, more than just a “decent” person. My best wishes and sympathy go also and especially to Sarah and Paul, as well as the rest of your family. I know your sisters and brother grieve with you. My heart is with them as it is always with you. Know that I carry your heart in my heart forever. May God bless and keep you close --to lighten your burden as much as you will allow. I am sure the death of a child is the worse pain a parent can have. If you wish to talk to someone who is not family I am available as a “safe space”. While I cannot help the pain lessen, I may be able to hear things you might not feel comfortable saying to family. I also know an excellent grief counselor. I believe she heads a group of women who have lost a child. With all my love; Steve. (cell: 404-514-146) 2 years ago
