A Grand Adventure for a Grand Cause

On Tuesday October 16, 2012, we are going to attempt one of the most challenging things we have ever done: a  Rim-to-Rim Hike at the Grand Canyon.  Twenty hikers are participating as a team called Steps for Soldiers.  I am excited personally to participate in this hike - to help those who have been injured while serving our country.   We are so blessed to have the United States Military watching our backs.   On a personal level, a neighbor of mine - Tommy McBride - is a young man who lost a leg in Aphganistan.   His story has helped inspire me to participate in the hike on October 16th.

After months of training and preparation, we will begin in the pre-dawn darkness at the North Kaibab trailhead on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.  From there, we will hike to the South Rim, located 22 miles away; the hike features over 11,000 feet of elevation change, a 45 degree swing in temperature and over 60,000 steps – all in one day!

A Chance to Give Back

Steps for Soldiers™ was started by a small, dedicated group of people from all over the United States, who share a love for adventure and believe they can make a difference.  The Steps for Soldiers™ hike at the Grand Canyon benefits an amazing organization called Wounded Warrior Project™.

Wounded Warrior Project™ supports men and women in the military who have been injured in theatres of conflict. The organization helps these soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines by providing a multitude of resources for them and their families.  The chance to do something big for those who sacrifice so much was something we could not pass up!
