Dwankhozi Hope's Fundraiser:
Barclay - Run for Hope - Chicago Marathon
Dwankhozi Hope
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2011
HERE'S THE STORY:
Dear Friends & Family,
On October 9th, I will be running the Bank of America Chicago marathon. Although I have run this in the past, this year it's even more important to me because I have decided to run not only for myself, but for a wonderful charity called Dwankhozi Hope. Recently, Heather and I became interested in supporting Dwankhozi Hope after attending a benefit event hosted by some of our friends. Here is what we learned:
Dwankhozi Hope is a non-profit organization (started in 2006) which supports the Dwankhozi Community School (DCS) in Zambia, Africa. There are approximately 600 students at DCS. In addition to lacking education, many of these students have been orphaned by AIDS, are seriously lacking proper nutrition, and are without trained support to cope with mental, developmental and physical health issues. DCS provides opportunity through education and hope for a better life.
In the past five years, Dwankhozi Hope has been able to support the construction of multiple school buildings, provide critical school supplies, lead an effort to provide clean water to the community, and improve sanitation systems at the school. The future goals of Dwankhozi Hope include the installation of solar lighting at the school (for night classes and studying) and to sponsor some of the students to continue their education at higher educational institutions.
Please consider making a donation to Dwankhozi Hope as part of my completion of the marathon. 95% of all donations go directly to the DCS.
Sincerely,
