EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Dec 06, 2011
HERE'S THE STORY:

Friends and Family,

Believe it or not, I'm running the New York City Marathon! I've been training through the heat - it's not been pretty but it has been fun. The marathon is something I've been thinking about for a while now but never really thought I'd actually do. In fact, I always thought it was pretty much impossible. Now, I'm trying to make the impossible possible - I'm really excited about this opportunity for a few reasons:

  • The New York City Marathon is one of the best and/or most crowded, with 45,000 runners to beat,
  • I'm going to prove to myself that running over 26 miles is not only possible, but also fun,
  • I'm very excited to see all five boroughs on foot  – and yes, I'm excited to finish!

As I am a champion of affordable housing, I’m running for a great cause, the Bed Stuy Restoration Corporation (BSRC), the nation's first community development corporation, founded by Robert F. Kennedy and Jacob Javits in 1967. My goal is to raise $3,000 for BSRC. Over the years, BSRC has created 2,200 affordable apartments, attracted more than $375 million in investments to Central Brooklyn, placed over 20,000 youth and adults in jobs, and provided arts education to to 400 students, ages 3-19, each year.

Here’s where you come in... Will you please donate a dollar a mile, five dollars a mile or ten dollars a mile? I will be so grateful, as will hundreds of families who will be helped by this dynamic Brooklyn non-profit. As I look forward to crossing the finish line, having run 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of New York City, I hope I can count on your support!

PLEASE HELP ME HIT MY MARK. DONATE HERE!

If you’re in town, please come cheer me on! More details to come soon on that front.

Thanks,

John Scott
